Botanical Garden
A city centre oasis
Instant world travel – guaranteed by a visit to the Botanical Garden. This city centre oasis takes visitors to the Alps followed by a panoramic view of the Mediterranean, palms and cacti, orchids and plants of the steppes. The Botanical Garden is a seductive festival of the senses, shapes, scents and colours. Thousands of plant species from all over the world, including many medicinal herbs, are at home here – in the open air or in the six greenhouses where visitors are in close contact with the vegetation. The park was set up in 1859 mainly for study purposes and now covers over two hectares of land on the sunny side of the slope bordering the River Aare, right next to the Lorraine Bridge. This is a place for quiet relaxation – a place to recharge your batteries. The many guided tours, art exhibitions and events put on all year round are an added attraction.
